It can sometimes be intimidating trying to figure out where to start on your journey to becoming eco friendly and environmentally sustainable. Here are four simple everyday swaps that you can implement into your daily lifestyle.
Tip # 1: Use Reusable Items
A simple swap like using reusable grocery bags vs plastic ones makes a great impact and can go a long way. Some stores like Target even reward their customers for using reusable bags when they shop. Exchanging plastic single use water bottles and straws for glass or stainless steel ones is another good start for the whole family. Plastic and single use items oftentimes end up in the oceans and landfill.
Tip #2: Shop Local
Shopping locally is not only good for the environment, but it also helps support local farmers and businesses. When we shop locally, there are less carbon emissions involved because of the decreased mileage in transportation and shipping.
Tip # 3: Meal Prep
When we sit down and strategically plan our meals, we are less likely to waste food. Eliminating our food waste decreases landfill carbon emissions and allows us to save money. Additionally, incorporating a couple days in the week where you have a meatless or vegan meal also decreases carbon emissions and helps the environment.
Tip # 4. Thrifting
Thrifting or shopping second hand is a great way to be environmentally conscious. Donating your unwanted items to a donation center like Goodwill keeps clothes out of the landfill and also provides your items with a second life
Remember to celebrate your wins no matter how small and focus on little changes where you can!
