Learning about Fermented Foods - Winston-Salem

December 19, 2024 -
4:00pm to 5:00pm
Southside Branch Library: 3185 Buchanan Street Winston-Salem, NC 27127

Bring your kids and let them unleash their creativity in this hands-on STEAM class for ages 5 - 11. During this class youth will learn how bacteria is used to ferment foods such as yogurt, kombucha, and kimchi. This lesson will be paired with a reading of a story called No Kimchi for Me by Aram Kim that tells the story of Yoomi, an anthropomorphic cat who doesn’t like kimchi and so is mocked by her older siblings. After the reading students will be able to view and smell several fermented foods and they will learn the difference between good bacteria and bad bacteria.
