Explore nature through art with a nature mandala
Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning circle and is used to refer to a circular structure with a symmetrical design that radiates from its center. Mandala patterns exist throughout nature. Think of flowers, tree rings, the sun, snowflakes, eyes, and more. Mandalas are a great way to notice and learn about the design and organization that is found throughout nature.
You can use natural materials like stones, leaves, flowers, grass, pinecones, and more to create your own nature mandala.
1. Go outside into nature and look for examples of mandalas for inspiration
2. Find materials for your mandala
3. Make your mandala
Start with a central focus and then make circular patterns around the center. Consider making your mandala where other people can see and enjoy it, like a local park or sidewalk.
Take a photo of your nature mandala and share it on social media. Make sure to tag @peancorg and #PEAYoungLeaders to be entered into the weekly Young Eco Leaders Raffle.
