Spring is the perfect time to set up a rain barrel to get your plants started, and to help them thrive through the hot summer months ahead.
Rainwater harvesting offers many benefits to the home gardener and to the environment by conserving water while reducing soil erosion and the potential of flash flooding through stormwater reduction. Learn about safety considerations, proper placement, maintenance, and some different styles and features of manufactured rain barrels, as well as some DIY tips for making your own. They will also discuss growing ornamentals and vegetables in containers, which are best suited for small scale rainwater harvesting applications.
This is a FREE virtual program hosted by North Carolina Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center. Program content will be reflective of the climate and growing conditions of Piedmont North Carolina. The program will be offered live online, via ZOOM, on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 10:00 AM - Noon. Registrants will receive an email with instructions for signing up through Zoom on or before March 22. This program will be recorded for later viewing, but live participation in the entire program is encouraged to be eligible for door prize drawings and any professional development credits offered. Recordings will only be shared with participants that complete Zoom registration.
