Spring is almost here and beautiful days are ahead. Time to preserve some of the fresh produce to enjoy in the fall and winter time.
New to canning or an experienced canner? Whatever your situation, you are welcome to join N.C. Cooperative Extension, Forsyth County Center's Home Food Preservation Series (HFP) to be held in-person, starting in May and running through September 2023. Workshops will be on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM (This includes educational component and hands-on component). This is a time to learn, enjoy and not be rushed. We will cover boiling water and pressure canning foods, jams & jellies, pickling, freezing, drying, and much more.
***Prerequisite - If you do not have any experience or have limited experience in canning, please take time to view this video to familiarize yourself with the basics of canning. All ongoing sessions are fast-paced and prior understanding of canning is required.
Canning sessions are in-person and space is limited to 12 people. Registration is required for each session being offered. You can pick and choose which sessions you would like to attend. Each session will open up for registration 3 weeks prior to the scheduled workshop, schedule is as follows (you are able to set a reminder once the session is open for registration):
4/25/23 - Salsa Making
5/9/23 - Pressure Canning
5/23/23 - Freezing
6/6/23 - Sweet Spreads
6/20/23 - Fermentation
7/25/23 - Pickling
8/8/23 - Meat Canning
8/29/23 - Dehydration
Note: Because these workshops will be hands-on, the canned foods once processed, cannot be moved for 24 hours. Therefore, you will NOT be able to take jars home on the same day of the class but may pick it up the following day/week, or at the next HFP workshop that you are registered for.
