Wild Ones CNC is pleased to invite you to this very interesting and important program, consisting of a lecture and a nature walk, on the importance of native plants for stream restoration and for the creation of healthy functional ecosystems along streams and creeks.
Mr. George Morris will discuss his experience restoring the Cullowhee Creek in Western North Carolina. He will discuss the structures and construction methods and explore how native vegetation plays a role in stream restoration and in the creation of healthy functional ecosystems. He will talk about the pre-construction conditions, construction, and habitat improvement along the creek.
After the lecture, we will visit Miller Park and discuss how the concepts discussed in the lecture apply to the creek that runs through the park.
Mr. George Morris is the owner and founder of Ripple EcoSolutions. Mr. Morris designs, implements and oversees planting projects for various clients in riparian buffers, wetland and stormwater BMPs. He also oversees invasive plant species removal for various projects. Mr. Morris has an extensive background in riparian buffer and wetland planting, horticulture and landscaping with native plant species. He is a member of the Steering Committee for the Cullowhee Native Plant Conference.
The lecture is free and will be held on February 18 from 1:00 to 3:30. It consists of a lecture from 1:00-2:00pm which will be held at Parkway United Church of Christ and a nature walk at Miller Park with a special focus on the creek.
