Wild Places in Backyard Spaces Series: Basics of Backyard Beekeeping

Join Rebecca Craps, Natural Resources and Environmental Systems Agent with N.C. Cooperative Extension to learn how to get started with backyard beekeeping. This workshop will include information about how to choose and set up supplies, basic bee anatomy, identification of honeybees compared to native bees, beekeeping through the seasons, and common challenges facing backyard beekeepers.

An introduction to the Forsyth County Beekeeper Association and the Bee School that they host each year with information about how to register will also be discussed in this session.

Basics of Backyard Beekeeping is the second of four classes in the Wild Places in Backyard Spaces Series. Upcoming classes will be Building Better Backyards for Birds on Tuesday, Feb. 18., 2025 at 2 p.m. and Backyard Wildlife: Friends or Foes on Tuesday, May 20 at 2 p.m. Registration for the February and May classes will be available one month prior.
