Clean Energy Internship (Paid)

Internship Summary

Piedmont Environmental Alliance (PEA) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented intern to help local businesses and organizations implement impactful sustainability measures. With billions of climate action dollars now available to businesses, nonprofits, and local governments, you will help PEA and our community accelerate local clean energy projects–like solar energy and electric vehicle adoption–through research, public education, and community outreach. We need a people person who also loves to dig into policy. 

In this newly created position, our Clean Energy Intern will make a one-year commitment to PEA’s Inflation Reduction Act Technical Assistance work and our Green Business Network. This is a hybrid-remote position, but we will consider fully remote applicants.

Internship responsibilities:
 

  • Grow our Green Business Network, by reaching out to local businesses and nonprofits and holding informational meetings.

  • Develop regular communication with Green Business Network members, including short descriptions of policy and advocacy opportunities, check-ins on progress, etc.
  • Track and summarize efforts across the country to accelerate the clean energy economy.
  • Write up blog posts and one-pagers about policy and advocacy opportunities for local businesses and community leaders.
  • Support the planning and execution of related PEA events, including marketing, materials production, logistics, and more, especially for Green Career Expo ‘25
  • Represent PEA within various stakeholder groups, on an as needed basis


Desired Qualifications
A successful candidate will have a history of relationship building, an interest in policy-level and grassroots solutions, and/or persuasive writing skills. 

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience.
  • A history of relationship building, through professional experiences or via community engagement/organizing as a volunteer
  • Subject-matter knowledge in climate, clean energy, environmental justice and/or policy.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a team environment related to research, analysis, policy, and/or communications (graduate studies may count towards years of experience)
  • Excellent references demonstrating a strong track record in research & analysis, communications, and collaborative teamwork.


Compensation
This is a 15 hour a week commitment, paid via a monthly stipend (hourly pay of $16 - $21, commensurate with experience).
